Is bigger always better when it comes to where you work?
PR talent often thinks it’s the larger global agencies that offer the best gig when it comes to career progression. But when it comes to start-ups and small teams of less than 10, we’d argue they have just as much to bring to the table.
From the opportunity to do some outstanding creative work, work on big-name clients and enjoy some really cool perks, choosing to work at a smaller agency can be an amazing decision for your career.
So what are the pros of joining a ‘micro’ PR agency?
1. You can accelerate your career growth.
If you join a fast-growing micro agency, your career development will accelerate. This is because you’re often handed the reins and trusted to lead projects. This gives you the opportunity to get your skills seen for quicker promotions.
2. You get broader exposure to the business.
At smaller agencies, you’ll likely get more exposure to the business operations and client work. You often have to lean into responsibilities beyond your job title. E.g. an Account Exec may have some of the responsibilities an Account Manager would have at a bigger agency which further helps career progression.
3. You have a real voice in the business.
Employees at smaller agencies tend to have a direct line of communication to the founder. There’s not as many layers to go through to get your voice heard, giving you the opportunity to shape the business alongside the founding team.
