How to retain Gen Z talent with Paul McEntee (Founder, Here Be Dragons)

Say Hello

Having successfully engaged the next generation of talent into the world of PR with his agency Here Be Dragons, we asked Paul for his top tips on retaining Gen Z. Here’s what he had to say:

1. Don’t assume they’re a lifer.

“Be prepared to launch people’s careers. Don’t expect to be people’s careers.”

2. Show flexibility for side hustles.

“The best people will have other interests outside of work. Embrace this to keep them.”

3. Show up on social media.

“Your agency brand is no different to any other brand prospective employees will engage with – they will pour through your socials to try to understand what it is like to work for your agency. A strong social presence is as important as a company website.”

4. Meet them halfway.

“Implement your acquired knowledge of past agency experience into your workplace but also allow new employees to bring new ideas and new ways of working that you can compromise on.”

5. Communicate everything.

“Over-communicate or its over.”
