About the agency

SKMG was founded in 2018 to spark smarter conversations through earned media. The business uses creative thinking, a passion for good writing, and an obsession with behavioural science to build and execute strategies that do more than just make noise: they shift culture in favour of the client. Specialising in proactive brand management, strategy, media relations, executive advisory and reputation, the agency has built a reputation working with some of Australia’s most prominent blue-chip brands across media, marketing, entertainment, property, and technology. In 2025, SKMG began extending that expertise further into the Asia Pacific market.

Co-founded by Neil Shoebridge (a former AFR journalist and Network 10 Director of Communications and Publicity) and Andrew Knowles (listed in both B&T and Cannes Lions 30 Under 30), SKMG’s approach is built around a distinctive framework: act, explain, amplify. That means first focusing on the actual business activity, before shaping how it’s communicated, and amplifying it to audiences who matter. The agency treats earned media as a strategic tool rather than a volume exercise, working directly with C-suite executives to shape business narratives that connect commercial objectives with public understanding.

Current clients include Seven West Media, ARIA, PPCA, QMS, EY, 5D, Social Soup, Decidr, Freecity, Global Branded Residences, Forbes Australia and Atomic 212°. Clients typically stay for years, and the business rarely goes to pitch.

In 2024, the agency secured close to 700 pieces of proactive coverage for Seven West Media. In 2025, it delivered a 200% increase in media coverage for Atomic 212° in the 12 months leading to its sale to Publicis Groupe, and led ARIA’s scripting and communications for several appearances before the Australian Senate.

SKMG also produces COMMPRESS, a Substack read by senior industry practitioners and creators at the bleeding edge of culture alike.

About the job

As a senior hire at SKMG, you’ll play a key role in the agency’s next phase of growth, with full ownership to build and grow your own client portfolio across sectors of your choosing. Working closely with the team, you’ll be trusted to lead client relationships end-to-end – from opening doors and shaping proposals through to strategic delivery and long-term account growth. This is a rare opportunity to operate with the autonomy of running your own consultancy, while being supported by the structure, reputation, and security of an established PR agency. In return, you’ll receive a highly competitive commission structure ranging from 20% to 50% on the revenue you generate, in addition to a base salary.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and grow your own portfolio of retained and project-based clients (typically 3–5 core accounts)
  • Own and lead client relationships end-to-end, acting as the primary senior contact
  • Drive new business through proactive outreach, referrals, and sector expertise
  • Shape proposals, scopes, and pricing in collaboration with the founders
  • Deliver strategic communications counsel and oversee campaign execution
  • Lead media relations activity, leveraging existing relationships and building new ones
  • Remain hands-on with writing, messaging, and campaign development as needed
  • Contribute to the growth of SKMG by unlocking new sectors and areas of expertise
  • Hire and manage junior team members as your client base grows

About you

  • You are a Senior Account Director or equivalent senior PR operator from an agency background
  • You have a proven track record of converting new business and growing long-term client relationships
  • You bring strong industry knowledge and a clear sense of where commercial opportunities sit
  • You have a proactive, entrepreneurial mindset and a genuine hunger to knock on doors
  • You can articulate how you would approach building a client portfolio and securing new work
  • You’re commercially savvy and prefer working with a smaller number of well-structured, higher-value clients
  • You’re confident being both strategic and hands-on, from client leadership through to execution
  • You’re motivated by autonomy, growth, and being directly rewarded for the value you create
